Voters in the Coast Unified School District appear to have elected three women to the Board of Trustees, one incumbent and two newcomers.
They’ll join current trustees Dianne Brooke and Del Clegg. As of Wednesday, Nov. 7, with all but a few votes counted, challenger Judith Hillen had received 2,184 votes; incumbent board President Cindy Fratto had 2,178 votes; and challenger Sue Nash had 2,035 votes.
Challenger Jack Mettier received 1,796 votes. There were 222 write-in ballots cast. Most are likely for Steve Kniffen, who filed as an official write-in candidated.
Nash and Hillen will assume posts to be vacated by physician Robert Gong, who didn’t run again, and Victoria Dandurand, who ran for, and won, a seat on the Cayucos Elementary School District.
Fratto has served on the board since 2004. Hillen is a math and science education consultant with more than 20 years of teaching experience at elementary and university levels. Nash is an art-appreciation teacher at Cuesta College and a Hearst Castle guide.
