A San Luis Obispo woman was arrested this morning for attempting to rob a home, where she allegedly assaulted its residents with a bat, and she is also suspected of stealing items from Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
At about 9 a.m., two residents of an apartment at 60 Casa St. in San Luis Obispo woke up to find an unfamiliar woman in the act of stealing various items, including a laptop computer, X-Box 360 and other household items, according to a news release from San Luis Obispo police.
When the residents confronted 32-year-old Sandra Welsh, she picked up a wooden baseball bat and struck both of them, causing minor injuries to both, the news release said. The residents were able to overcome her and detain her until police officers arrived.
Welsh was arrested on suspicion of robbery, residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, with bail set at $30,000.
During the investigation, Welsh was found to be in possession of other likely stolen property that was not taken from the apartment at 60 Casa St.
Welsh was wearing a hospital bracelet from Sierra Vista, where she had been discharged at about 5 a.m. However, someone found her hiding in a restroom in the hospital at about 7:15 a.m.
Officers alleged that, between the hours of 5 and 7:15 a.m., Welsh had stolen numerous items from the hospital, including a television, DVD player and several children's DVDs.
