The following notations from Proposition 37 websites and from Jeffrey Smiths book, Seeds of Deception may help voters in supporting the initiative to label genetically engineered foods.
In the 1990s, scientists from the Food and Drug Administrations toxicology group warned about the potential of new toxins appearing in GE foods and recommended testing for them before they entered the marketplace. This has as yet not been done.
Moreover, both the American Medical Association and the World Health Organization, although generally supportive of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), now also have stated that there would be a benefit if more testing would be performed before GMOs enter the marketplace!
Back in 2002, Monsanto was found guilty of withholding research data for more than 40 years that linked its chemicals to horrendous human and environmental suffering. The Washington Post described the industrys conduct as outrageous in character and beyond all bounds of decency in a civilized society.
By then, Monsanto had already found total support at the FDA to push GE foods through without undue regulations. The industrys own testing, not independent analysis, has been accepted as sufficient for the engineered DNA of more than 90 percent of U.S. corn, soybeans, cotton, flax and other foods.
