As a registered nurse at a local hospital, I am writing this letter to express my concern about the impact of Proposition 32 if it should pass.
Nurses not only see a danger to our profession, but also to the patients and community we care for, if we are prohibited from being engaged in the political process. The intent of Proposition 32 is to silence working families, through their unions, while allowing corporations and the wealthy unchallenged influence as their contributions to super PACs and other political expenditures, including lobbyists, remains unlimited as a result of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.
If nurses (and other workers) are forced to the political sidelines by Proposition 32, the result will be fewer worker protections on the job, less regulation of health care costs resulting in higher rates for health insurance, and cuts in programs such as Medicare and Medi-Cal.
Vote no on Proposition 32!
