Young Central Coast musicians had a chance to shine earlier this month at the Paderewski Youth Piano Competition in Paso Robles.
Held Oct. 20 at Cass Winery, the annual competition was open to residents of Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
Students in two categories – juniors (ages 10 to 14) and seniors (ages 15 to 18) -- competed for cash prizes, the chance to perform during this year’s Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles and the opportunity to take an all-expenses-paid trip to Poland.
Jack Raventos, 12, of Orcutt won first place in the junior division, taking home a $400 cash prize.
Twelve-year-old Daniel Ha of Nipomo took second place and $300, while 11-year-old Cian Amor of Los Osos took third place and $200.
In the senior division, 15-year-old Gianna Zufall of Arroyo Grande won first place and $750.
Evan Lin, 15, of San Luis Obispo received $200 and the Paderewski Legacy Prize honoring the best contestant from San Luis Obispo County. In addition, jurors selected awarded honorable mention prizes of $100 apiece to 12-year-old Sydney Haughian of San Luis Obispo and 11-year-old Kevin Park of Santa Maria.
The winners will perform Nov. 10 at the Paso Robles Inn Ballroom, 1103 Spring Street in Paso Robles. Cash prizes and medals will be awarded during a ceremony immediately following the recital, which starts at 4 p.m.
