Articles illustrate bias

Published: October 31, 2012

The McClatchy articles (Tribune, Oct. 28) comparing President Barack Obama and GOP candidate Mitt Romney on their “personality styles” is biased media at its worse.

The Obama article states his “inability to achieve all he promised” originates from his “more detached personality.” This article includes critical quotes from a political opponent and blames him for not creating cooperation with Congress. Instead of portraying him as the fair, intelligent, eloquent leader we have seen for four years dealing with an oppositional Republicancontrolled House, the article characterizes Obama as a social misfit who doesn’t like people.

The Romney article, by comparison, describes him “being on a mission to better the world” and a “fixer.” There is no attempt to describe how he relates to people. It is an endorsement of his successes and a prediction of his presidency: “Romney executed time after time”; “… a Romney White House would put the emphasis on doing what works”; and finally, “None of this means Romney would govern as a doctrinaire conservative.”

This article describes Romney misrepresenting his positions to get elected as normal: “History is full of presidential nominees who veered left or right to get the nomination, then hustled back to the middle in time for the November election.”
