Prep Girls Volleyball: Templeton loses regular-season finale but still wins LPL

Santa Ynez knocks off Eagles, who get some help when Cabrillo tops Nipomo

Despite a 27-25, 24-26, 25-14, 10-25, 15-12 loss at Santa Ynez High on Tuesday night, the Templeton girls volleyball team, with the help of a Nipomo loss at Cabrillo, clinched the Los Padres League title outright.

The Eagles (14-3, 10-2 LPL) were led in the loss by Carly Roth, who had 17 kills, four blocks and six digs, and Sydney Roth, who had 54 assists and two aces.

“We are very pleased with how the season went,” Templeton head coach Jodi Kelly said. “The girls worked hard. It was a bit of a rough finish, but we are learning some things and going into the playoffs, we are going to make some adjustments that I think will really help us.”

Heather Fields and Autumn Russell had 15 kills each, with Fields adding 21 digs. Lindsey Wyatt added a team-high 41 digs for the Eagles.

Cabrillo 3, Nipomo 0

Cristina Ozzimo had 28 assists and Paige Waymire had 15 kills, but the Titans were swept 25-17, 26-24, 25-20 on the road.

Taylor Nevitt had 10 kills and two blocks, Sarah Stahl had 31 digs and Megan Penaflor had three aces and two digs for Nipomo (9-3 LPL). 

San Luis Obispo 3, Righetti 1

Ariel Becker had 17 kills and Holland Boege had 16 kills for the Tigers (22-7, 9-3 PAC 7) as they rallied from a first-set loss to defeat the Warriors 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23.

Maggie Eppright had 44 assists, and Erin Good had 32 digs for San Luis Obispo.

Atascadero 3, Pioneer Valley 0

Sophia Guerrier had 15 kills and seven aces to lead the Greyhounds (16-8, 7-5 PAC 7) to a 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 sweep of the Panthers. 

Mary Kate Evans had 11 kills, Chandler Haskell had eight kills, Sabrina Degnan had 18 assists and Sage Kelley had 17 assists for Atascadero. 

St. Joseph 3, Paso Robles 1

Maddi Chace had 12 kills and three blocks, and Brittany Tackett had five kills, two aces, and 13 digs for the Bearcats (9-14, 3-9 PAC 7), who lost 19-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 in Santa Maria.

Mission Prep 3, Lompoc 0

Natalie Brescia had 15 assists, seven digs and four aces to lead the Royals (8-9) to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-11 win.

Rachel Hindmarsh had nine kills and four aces, and Jessica Culver had 10 digs and one ace for Mission Prep.

Coastal Christian 3, Coast Union 0

The Conquerors (15-1, 12-0 CVL) wrapped up an undefeated league season with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 sweep of the Broncos. 

Koral Wright had 22 digs, JoAnn Lindstaedt had 35 assists, and Leslie Henry had 23 kills for the Conquerors. 

The Broncos’ Roxy Mertens had six kills and Karla Soto, Amy Avina and Doris Steen all had four. Avina also had three aces.

Sage Radecki had 22 assists, and Cristina Palasencia had 10 digs for Coast Union (12-6, 10-2 CVL). 

Shandon 3, North County Christian 1

The Outlaws (defeated the Crusaders  25-20, 17-25, 25-17, 25-20 in the last  match of the season for both teams. 

Janelle Honeycutt had nine aces, Aliyah Morrison had 15 kills, Kelsie McRoy had 21 assists and Alyse DeHerrera had six digs for North County Christian (1-22, 1-11 CVL).
