A 17-year old girl was walking home through the Laguna Lake Golf Course on Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo around 7 p.m. Monday when a man tried to steal her school bag, police said.

The suspect was described as a white man with short brown hair, a scruffy beard, around 5-feet
9-inches tall and wearing a dark shirt with jeans. He followed the girl, asking her if she was all right, according to police.  He then tried to grab her bag, but she held onto it and ran to her home.

Police officers canvassed the area but could not find him.
