Horse race politics

San Luis ObispoOctober 26, 2012

That’s right, we’ve seen all this before: the Democrat campaigns left and governs center-right. The Republican challenger campaigns right (“I’m a severe conservative”) and debates center-left. If you watched the second debate, you got to see Romney handing out contraceptives and Pell grants like so much popcorn and beer at a Giants game. The media eats this all up and spits it back out as a “horse race, too close to call.” (Climate change versus no climate change? Also a horse race — too close to call.) Like my grandfather (or was it my conscience?) used to say: “If you think the media is liberal, it’s working.”

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
