Mr. Tony Rector-Cavagnaro’s Oct. 11 letter (“Support Baldwin”) relates his long association with Cuesta College, as an instructor for 23 years. Kudos for that! As an older, returning student, my graduation from Cuesta gave me the success I needed to go on to receive my credential and teach for 21 years.

Obviously, we both revere Cuesta College. My objection to Mr. Cavagnaro’s letter is his linking Barbara George to the board of trustees, whom he says have a “record of failed policies and botched decisions.” Barbara George was never a board member! He also ties her to years of “stale policies and rubber-stamping of misguided decisions.”

The Cuesta Foundation, which Barbara George headed for 27 years, raised funds for numerous successful programs and services that greatly benefited Mr. Cavagnaro, other faculty and students. To name a few: It raised funds for faculty grants, disabled students, nursing programs, conferences, athletic equipment and performing arts; refurbished science and humanities forums; created more than 150 endowed scholarships; raised money to purchase land and build a campus in Paso Robles; and established many community programs such as College for Kids.

Hardly “misguided decisions”!

Yes, Mr. Cavagnaro, we do have “a candidate who will act with thoughtful deliberation.”

That candidate is Barbara George.
