The Arroyo Grande High girls tennis team dominated the preliminary round of the PAC 7 league tournament on Thursday at Pioneer Valley as the Eagles had two singles players and three doubles teams reach today’s semifinals.
No. 1 seed Sophie Whittle of Arroyo Grande, the defending champion, won her two singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 and will face the No. 4 seed, St. Joseph’s Claire Bouquet in today’s semifinals.
Arroyo Grande’s Lauren Hayashi, the No. 2 singles seed, won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 and will face No. 3 seed Maria Petiy from Paso Robles.
The No. 1 doubles team of Amber Domako and Zoe Miller from Arroyo Grande won 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 7-5 and will face teammates and No. 4 seed Melina Rodgers and Joanne Phung. Rodgers and Phung won their matches 6-3, 6-2 and 5-7, 6-4 (10-5).
Arroyo Grande’s No. 2 seeded doubles team of Alexis Flood and Chelsea Pudwill will face the No. 6 seed from Atascadero, Amber Petersen and Mallory Miller. Flood and Pudwill won 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3.
Coast Union 15, Mission Prep 3
Alex Zaragoza swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 for the Broncos (4-13) in their road win over the Royals.
All of Coast Union’s singles and doubles players won sets, including Melissa Mathieson, who won two of her three singles sets.
The doubles teams of Morgan May and Kylie Castle, and Naomi Hernandez and Bennett McManus both swept their sets for the Broncos.
GIRLS GOLF
The CIF-Southern Section Northern Division individual finals were held at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.
St. Joseph’s Desiree Gillaspy shot an 8-over 80, and Morro Bay’s Jennifer Baltimore shot an 82, making them the top finishers among all PAC 7 and Los Padres League entrants. However, a score of 78 or better was required to move to the girls individual championships.
Arroyo Grande’s Anna Zhang shot an 84, Nipomo’s Courtney Cuzick shot an 88, San Luis Obispo’s Nehah Sikand shot a 90 and Nora Zakaria shot a 93.
This was the first season San Luis Obispo qualified a team for the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division team finals, as well as sending two girls to the individual finals.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
San Luis Obispo 3, St. Joseph 1
The Tigers’ Ariel Becker had 18 kills, and Erin Good had 20 digs as San Luis Obispo (21-7, 8-3 PAC 7) beat the Knights 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15.
Holland Boege had 13 kills for San Luis Obispo, and Maggie Eppright had 40 assists.
Arroyo Grande 3, Paso Robles 0
The Eagles (21-5, 12-0 PAC 7) swept the Bearcats 25-22, 25-19, 25-15.
Arroyo Grande’s Millisa Morrow had five aces and nine digs, while Alyssa Koenig added seven kills, 10 digs and two aces for the Eagles. Alaina Hogeboom had 30 assists and nine digs, and Savana Welch added four aces for Arroyo Grande.
Molly Donovan had 14 kills and four aces for Paso Robles (9-13, 3-8 PAC 7), Maddie Chace had six kills, and Crystal Arrowsmith had 24 assists.
Righetti 3, Atascadero 1
The Greyhounds lost 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16.
Sophia Guerrier had 18 kills and 11 digs for Atascadero (15-8, 6-5 PAC 7), Kendall Featherstone had 10 kills and 16 assists, and Mary Kate Evans had 10 kills.
Templeton 3, Mission Prep 0
The Eagles (14-2) swept the Royals 26-24, 25-14, 25-23 on the road.
Heather Fields led Templeton with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Autumn Russell had nine kills, and Carly Roth added eight for the Eagles. Sydney Roth had 34 assists, and Lindsey Wyatt added 17 for Templeton.
Grace Ready led the Royals (6-9) with nine kills 22 digs and two aces. Natalie Brescia had 18 assists and six digs, and Noelle Laird had four kills and 14 digs for Mission Prep.
Nipomo 3, Lompoc 0
The Titans won 25-7, 25-14, 25-17 on the road.
Paige Waymire had seven aces, two kills and 24 assists for Nipomo (15-6, 9-2 LPL), Taylor Nevitt had two aces, four blocks, Sarah Stahl had 10 digs, and Kiana Worth had six aces and nine kills.
Coast Union 3, Cuyama Valley 0
The Broncos swept the Bears 25-14, 25-8, 25-8.
Cristina Plasencia had seven aces for Coast Union (12-5, 10-1 Coast Valley League), and Roxy Mertens had seven kills. Makenna Perryman had six digs, and Sage Radecki had 19 assists, three kills, and three digs.
Coastal Christian 3, North County Christian 0
The Conquerors won 25-10, 25-2, 25-6 against the Crusaders (1-21, 1-10 CVL).
Leslie Henry had seven kills and 17 digs for Coastal Christian (14-1, 11-0 CVL), JoAnn Lindstaedt had 15 assists and Roni Garrison had eight aces.
North County Christian’s Aliyah Morrison had five kills and two blocks, Kelsie McRoy had six assists, Carley Miller had four digs, and Alyse DeHerrera had two aces.
