Last month, KSBY.com ran a small article on its website about how Cuesta College faculty ranked in student satisfaction according to Ratemyprofessor.com.  Ratemyprofessor.com maintains a website that students at any of the more than 1,000 community colleges in the United States can visit to see how students have rated their professors. Cuesta ranked 21st overall.

Out of the 112 California community colleges, only five other colleges rated higher than Cuesta: San Diego City College, Cypress, Irvine Valley, Ventura and Santa Ana. In the past decade, these colleges have passed bond measures respectively for $875 million, $698 million, $239 million, $356.3 million and $393 million. With that money from local property taxes, these colleges were able to build and maintain facilities to better serve their students.

Cuesta College, on the other hand, hasn’t passed a bond since 1971, and it was for $5 million dollars. Sadly, on a recent statewide salary survey of the 72 community college districts in the state of California, Cuesta ranks near the bottom, at 69th.

We are proud of how we have provided a high-quality education to students in our county who come from good local high schools with good teachers, and who still find that when they attend Cuesta, the professors they encounter impress them enough to deserve excellent ratings. Please consider the good bargain Cuesta has been for our county when you vote on Proposition 30. Cuesta has earned your support.
