Geoff English is a hero

Published: October 24, 2012

Lon Allan’s tribute to Geoff English was spot on (“Atascadero will miss departing Geoff English,” Oct. 8). Geoff is a real hero in my book.

Several years ago on our way to the Polar Bear Dip in Cayucos, my husband and I spotted an overturned car that had gone off the road down a really steep ravine at a particularly treacherous section of Old Creek Road. We pulled over to investigate and called 911. Within a couple of minutes, Geoff and his family drove by and stopped as well. Geoff immediately scrambled down the steep rocky slope, through dense brush and poison oak, to get a close look and offer assistance. Sadly, the driver was dead.

I don’t know too many people who would have risked their own safety in that situation. As the saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words.”

Geoff is also a candidate running for Templeton Community Services District board. This “Go to Guy” deserves your vote.
