Cal Poly’s junior kicker Bobby Zalud was named the Big Sky Conference’s player of the week on special teams Monday for the second time this season.
Zalud was three-for-three on field goal attempts – which included kicks of 49, 41 and 20 yards – and he was perfect on his four extra point tries in the Mustangs’ 37-25 home win over Portland State.
Zalud’s 49-yard field goal was his second longest of the season. The transfer from Arkansas State averaged 34 yards on three punts in the game as well, including one of 48 yards, to help the Mustangs maintain their unbeaten record.
Also Monday, Cal Poly men's soccer team goalkeeper Wade Hamilton was named the Big West Conference’s defensive player of the week.
Hamilton helped his team to wins over UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara.
He had four saves in the win against the Aggies and his second career shutout. Hamilton recorded a career-high 11 saves in the match at UCSB, the Mustangs’ first win at the Gauchos’ stadium in 14 years.
