The public can give email comments to Paso Robles city planners through the end of April on ways the city could better prepare for and recover from a natural disaster, as required by the federal government.

City leaders are in the process of updating the area’s 2005 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, according to a news release.

The plan will identify natural hazards such as wildfire and establish the recovery steps needed should such risks impact the community. The update will include a revised plan to reflect changes in the city’s development, progress in other efforts and changes in community priorities.

The first workshop on the subject took place Thursday at City Hall, 1000 Spring St. A second workshop is tentatively planned for February after the first draft of the update is written. That draft will then circulate through the public hearing process at the city’s Planning Commission and City Council hearings.
