More on voter fraud

Published: October 19, 2012

I seldom read Joetopia by Joe Tarica. I think he’s overblown. Not much rabble to rouse in this happy place, Joe! His Oct. 13 piece on voter fraud was the exception, and I was happy to give an “attaboy” in private until I saw the letter “Voter fraud facts” from Jeri Young on Oct. 16.

I studied the efforts of the News21 organization that showed credibly that there is no voter fraud! One incident in 15 million registered voters would be thwarted by this current voter ID mania. Talk about jousting at windmills. Wait, what if it isn’t about voter fraud but is a concerted effort to discourage voters who might be elderly, overseas, of color, or students, prone to vote Democratic?

I have not taken the time to research Jeri’s assertions about actual voter fraud, but let’s take a quick look: In the majority of the examples given, there is scant evidence of fraud, and ample evidence of incomplete record-keeping. No closed loop. Who among us has taken the time to make sure that when we move or Uncle Bob passes, we make sure that the voter registrations are accurate? That’s what those figures reflect, not that we are rife with voter fraud. That agenda is only held by those who would make it more difficult for those who might vote for the “other side.”
