Power was out to parts of San Luis Obispo for almost 15 minutes Thursday morning while a crew was replacing a power pole at Laurel Lane and Johnson Avenue, a PG&E spokesman said.

About 2,750 customers went without power during the brief delay.

The outage began at 11:19 a.m. and lasted 13 minutes, affecting homes and businesses on Johnson Avenue between Laurel Lane and Pacific Street as well as along Marsh and Higuera streets between Broad and Santa Rosa streets, utility spokesman Blair Jones said.

Among those affected was French Hospital Medical Center, where backup generators automatically turned on, hospital spokeswoman Megan Maloney said.

Some lights turned off at the facility, but its patient care equipment had backup power.

Devices such as heart monitors and oxygen systems are always on a dual power system of regular and backup power “so energy is never interrupted for them — there’s no pause,” Maloney said.

The hospital also stocks flashlights in every bathroom and next to every patient bed, she said.
