Cuesta picks up its first volleyball conference win

The Cuesta College volleyball team defeated L.A. Mission 3-0 on Wednesday to pick up its first Western State Conference victory of the season.

The Cougars (3-13, 1-3) swept the Eagles 25-21, 30-28, 25-22.

The first two sets were close with Cuesta pulling out the wins at the end with late runs. In the first set, Cal Poly overcame an 18-16 deficit to take a 21-20 lead and then went on the win.

In the second set, the Cougars overcame a 24-23 deficit with the Eagles serving for the set to pull out the win. Cuesta then rode the momentum of the second set win to grab a 10-2 lead in the third set before holding on for the win.

Riley Cooks had 10 kills for Cuesta, with Lauren Chatman adding nine. Kylie Gacad had 14 digs and 28 assists for the Cougars.
