A 68-year-old Merced man was found dead Tuesday morning on the beach in Cayucos.

David Ralph Woodruff was reported missing by his wife at 6:10 a.m. when he failed to return to his hotel room in Cayucos after a trip to the store. About an hour later, people walking on the beach found Woodruff’s body at the end of South Third Street.

Investigators have confirmed that the body was that of Woodruff, and an investigation is ongoing. However, foul play is not suspected at this time, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
