SLO High tops Paso Robles in girls tennis

The visiting Tigers (9-6, 7-2 PAC 7) swept all nine doubles sets in a 12-6 win over the Bearcats (10-4, 6-4) on Monday.

San Luis Obispo’s Lauren Hutkins and Joelle Lewis won 6-0, 6-3, 6-0, Darla Berkefeld and Courtney Gallagher won 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, and Caroline Burke and Anna Lippold won 6-1, 6-3, 6-4. Maya O’Brien won 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 in singles.

Paso Robles’ Maria Petiy swept 6-2, 6-0, 6-1 in singles to improve to 37-3 in sets on the season, and Riley Caruana won 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.

ARROYO GRANDE 16, ATASCADERO 2

The Eagles’ Lauren Hayashi avenged her only league set loss of the year and Arroyo Grande (13-1, 10-0 PAC 7) swept all nine doubles set against Atascadero.

The Greyhounds’ number one singles player Amber Petersen beat Hayashi in the team’s first matchup of the year and also beat her in the second round of league play last year and in the semifinals of last year’s PAC 7 singles tournament.

In what Arroyo Grande coach Lori Hollister described as Hayashi’s best match all year, Hayashi defeated Petersen 6-1 and Hayashi also won her other set 6-1.

Eagles’ single player Sophie Whittle won 6-3, 6-0 and doubles team of Melina Rodgers and Joann Phung swept 6-4, 6-2, 6-0.

SANTA MARIA 11, NIPOMO 6

Kelly Springford swept for the Titans (2-10, 1-8 Los Padres League).

Springford won 7-5, 6-1, 6-3.

The two teams only played 17 sets due to darkness and a 5-5 tie at the time in the final set.

Nipomo’s Nicole Johnson won 6-4, 7-5, 4-6 in singles.

COAST UNION 11, MISSION PREP 7

Alex Zaragoza swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, as the Broncos improved to 2-11 on the season.

Melissa Mathieson swept 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, and the doubles team of Morgan May and Kylie Castle swept 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
