Turnovers help Templeton rout Cabrillo at home

Alex Elterman threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns as the Templeton High football team cruised past visiting Cabrillo 42-14 on Friday night.

Elterman completed 14 of 17 passes to seven different receivers, including an 85-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Brooks in the third quarter that gave the Eagles (6-2, 3-1 Los Padres League) a 35-7 lead.

Brooks finished with two catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.

The Conquistadors (4-4, 3-1 LPL) turned the ball over on their first four possessions, leading to 28 points off turnovers for Templeton in the first half. Cabrillo fumbled six times in the game, losing four, and quarterback Gage Buckley had two interceptions in the first half, the second of which was returned 78 yards to the Cabrillo 2-yard line with 19 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Connor Truhitte ran it in on the next play, giving the Eagles a 28-0 lead at the break.

Truhitte had 84 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, including a 48-yard scamper up the right side in the second quarter that set up an Elterman touchdown pass to Tobey Isbell.

Despite the turnovers, the Conquistadors totaled 354 yards to Templeton’s 366.
