Overnight closures of Hwy. 1 through Big Sur postponed

betling@thetribunenews.comOctober 12, 2012

Plans to close Highway 1 near the north end of Big Sur at night have been postponed, Caltrans announced Friday.

The Sunday through Thursday night closures had been expected to begin Sunday just north of Bixby Bridge, about 14 miles north of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and 15 miles south of Carmel.

Crews will be installing a viaduct at the site of a road slippage that closed the road for a month in the spring of 2011. During the day, traffic is subject to one-way traffic control, with delays of up to 10 minutes.
