Cuesta Roundup: Cuesta volleyball team falls to Moorpark

The Cuesta College volleyball team was swept at home Wednesday, falling 25-14, 25-21, 28-26 to Moorpark.

Riley Cooks had 14 kills, and Kylie Gacad had 18 assists and nine digs for the Cougars (2-12, 0-2 Western State Conference).

Cuesta took its first lead of the match in the third game at 19-18 and pushed it to 24-21 before a Moorpark rally claimed the match.

Stephanie Persky had five kills, and Victoria Burkett had seven digs for the Cougars.

Cuesta names its athletes of the month

Shanae Lauridsen and Gordon Sturgess have been named the Cuesta College Athletes of the Month for September.

Lauridsen, a freshman for the Cougars women’s water polo team (9-13), is second in the state with 58 goals scored and third in the CCCAA with 57 steals on the season.

Sturgess, a sophomore on the men’s cross country team, placed second at the Tour de Cuesta and first at the Western State Conference preview meet.
