Prep Roundup: Morro Bay, Templeton dominate midseason LPL cross country meet

Both teams go 6-0 in dual meets

The Morro Bay High boys cross country team swept the Los Padres League Midseason All-School Dual Meet on Wednesday.

The Pirates, who went 6-0 on the day with five runners in the top 12, were led by Billy Vedren, who placed second overall in the 5K race in 16 minutes 27 seconds at Santa Maria’s Waller Park.

Austin Lay was third (16:31), Andrew Stafford was eighth (16:59), Daniel Van Beurden was ninth (17:09) and Angel Virgen was 12th (17:14) for Morro Bay.

Jacob Carey of Santa Ynez won the race in 16:17.

Templeton was fifth in the dual standings at 2-4, and Nipomo was sixth at 1-5. Alex Hascall placed fourth in 16:44 for the Titans, and Nick Landy placed 11th in 17:13 for the Eagles.

Veronica Russell of Templeton won the girls race in 19:08. The Eagles finished first as a team at 6-0.

Dana Alpert was fourth (19:53), Ann Taylor was 10th (20:36) and Kecymar Osuna placed 14th (20:46) for the Eagles.

Morro Bay and Nipomo tied with Lompoc in second place with matching 4-2 records.

The Pirates placed five girls in the top 20 — Allie Sulaidis (eighth place, 20:28), Shannon McClish (11th, 20:38), Alyson Voth (15th, 20:49), Madeline Ogle (17th, 21:08) and Ashley Fisher (19th, 21:46).

For the Titans, three girls placed in the top 10. Kyra Meko was second (19:27), Cassie Dittenhoefer placed sixth (20:18) and Gracie Albano placed ninth (20:35).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Mission Prep 3, Villanova Prep 0

Natalie Breschia had 11 aces and 19 assists to lead the Royals to a 25-14, 25-9, 25-10 road sweep.

Grace Ready had 11 kills, Noelle Laird had eight and Jessa Culver had 18 digs for Mission Prep (4-7).

GIRLS GOLF

Arroyo Grande 256, St. Joseph 282

The Knights’ Desiree Gillaspy shot a 3-over 40 to medal at Santa Maria Country Club, but the Eagles (9-0, 5-0) had five scorers within seven strokes of each other, and all between Gillaspy and St. Joseph’s next lowest scorer, to earn the PAC 7 dual road win.

Anna Zhang led Arroyo Grande with a 47, Tessa Oates shot a 50, Breanna Garcia shot a 52 and Ramie Castilleja shot a 53.

BOYS WATER POLO

Nipomo 14, Santa Maria 8

Alex Martinez had five goals, and Brendan Wing had four goals for the Titans.

Santa Ynez 15, Morro Bay 6

Mac Reinhart had two goals, and four Morro Bay players had one goal apiece in the loss to Santa Ynez.

Jack Krull had seven saves in goal for Morro Bay (10-11, 2-1 LPL).
