ORIGINAL: The sheriff’s bomb squad on Tuesday removed a suspicious object from a trash can next to an automated teller machine at a Rabobank branch on East Grand Avenue in Arroyo Grande.

Passersby had heard a beeping noise coming from the object, authorities said. Bomb squad personnel used a robot to roll up to the trash can and pull out the plastic liner holding the object.

The robot then transferred the trash liner and object to the bomb squad’s trailer, where the device was secured.

The bomb squad will determine the safest way to dispose of the object.
