Cal Poly women's golf leads Cal Poly Invitational; men are in fifth

— The Cal Poly women’s golf team had a six-stroke lead over Sacramento State after the first round of play in the Cal Poly Invitational on Monday at Monarch Dunes Golf Course.


The Mustangs posted a 300 total, led by Taylor Yoshitake’s 2-over 73.


Lisa Persson of Sacramento State had the individual lead with a 71.


Drew Thomas had a 74, and Kirsten Locke added a 75 for Cal Poly.


The men’s team was fifth at 288, trailing Cal State Northridge (284), Seattle (285), UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton (287).


Justin Haley shot a 1-under 69 for the Mustangs, and Grant Martens added a 72.


Biola’s Joshua Mathis and UCLA’s Preston Valder and Jake Knapp shared the individual lead after
carding 65s.
