Letter to the Editor

In support of Cuesta

TorranceOctober 8, 2012

I am writing this letter in support of the great experiences Cuesta College is able to provide to the community of San Luis Obispo County.

Cuesta is a place which serves so many by giving the opportunity to grow, by offering more locations, schedules and classes. A decade later, Cuesta still holds a dear place in my heart for all it allowed me to gain.

As so many are searching for an affordable, attainable educational experience that will lead to a better life, Cuesta caters. Being from Baltimore, I found that, as a California resident, a vast variety of classes were offered at Cuesta for less money than I could find anywhere on the East Coast, or Allan Hancock College.

I then gained a family of peers, through classes and employment. Working at Cuesta for three years was more rewarding than any job I’ve ever had, as the sense of respect was so strong. Teachers still reach out to me and motivated me to achieve my bachelor’s degree.

The Cuesta community is a path to further education, mentor relationships, and a brighter future. Losing its South County campus would hinder this inspiring institution, as it is founded on providing accessible, long-lasting opportunity to all.
