Arroyo Grande wins twice at San Luis Obispo boys water polo tournament

Arroyo Grande High (9-4) came out strong at the San Luis Obispo boys water polo tournament Friday. 

The Eagles defeated Atascadero 11-1, led by four goals from Jack Empey.

Nick Chapman, Toby Tonascia and Daniel Sistek each added two goals, and Clint Doucette had three saves in goal for the Eagles.

Andrew Sedley made the lone goal for Atascadero.

Empey also led Arroyo Grande in its 13-2 win over Wood Creek with six goals. Taylor Roth added three goals, and Chapman had two for the Eagles. 

Goalkeeper Chandler Mankins had five saves, and Doucette made two more saves for Arroyo Grande.

David Hernandez, Max Searls, Storm Hughes and Sedley had one goal apiece for the Greyhounds in their 13-4 loss to El Diamante. 

Goalkeeper Matt Buckingham had 10 saves in each game for Atascadero.

Morro Bay (10-8) dropped its first two games of the tournament, losing to California 13-3 and Cabrillo 8-4.

Grant Johnson scored three goals for the Pirates in their loss to California. 

Marco Naffioli had two goals against Cabrillo, and Travis Chirman and Mac Reinhart scored a goal apiece.

Jack Krull made 13 saves in Morro Bay’s two games.

The tournament continues today at Arroyo Grande, Nipomo and San Luis Obispo.
