OGDEN, Utah —
OGDEN, Utah — Andre Broadous threw a career-high three touchdown passes, defensive tackle Barrett Wangara returned an interception 58 yards for a score late in the third quarter and undefeated Cal Poly pulled away to beat winless Weber State 45-23 tonight.
Broadous completed 6 of 11 passes for 99 yards for the Mustangs (5-0, 3-0 Big Sky). Kristaan Ivory had 10 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 30 yards and another score, and Brandon Howe ran nine times for 78 yards and a touchdown and had three receptions for 23 yards and another touchdown.
Cal Poly scored 17 points in a 3:58 span late in the third quarter and early in the fourth. Wangara started the spree with his interception return, Bobby Zalud made a 44-yard field goal, and Broadous made it 38-20 with a 34-yard scoring pass to Willie Tucker.
After Weber State’s Shaun McClain made a 25-yard field goal, Howe scored on a 37-yard run to complete the scoring.
Cal Poly led 14-13 at the half.
Broadous threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Ivory to give Cal Poly a 7-6 early lead in the second quarter, Weber State (0-6, 0-3) pulled ahead on Mike Hoke’s 9-yard pass to Erik Walker, and Broadous countered with an 8-yard scoring pass to Howe. Shaun McClain made 22- and 46-yard field goals in the first quarter.
