Deadline to register to vote in November election is Oct. 22

Published: October 5, 2012

The San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder's office is reminding the public that Oct. 22 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 general election.

However, in order to receive the state’s voter information guide and the county’s sample ballot pamphlet, voter register cards must be postmarked by Tuesday, according to a news release from county Clerk-Recorder Julie Rodewald.

To fill out a card form or check your registration status, visit http://www.slovote.com. Cards must be signed and mailed to the elections office at P.O. Box 8102, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403, or dropped off at 1055 Monterey St.

The forms are also available throughout the county at city hall offices, libraries, banks, notary offices and utility companies. Or, call the clerk-recorder's office at 781- 5228, ext. 5228, and a form will be mailed.

Voters who register after Tuesday won’t receive information in the mail other than a postcard notifying them of their assigned polling place and where voter information can be obtained, according to the news release.

The voter information guide gives information on the 11 statewide ballot measures and candidate statements for U.S. Senate as well as information about the political parties, Rodewald said, while the sample ballot pamphlet includes statements from candidates and local measure information, the voter’s polling place and an application for a vote-by-mail ballot.
