Caltrans has completed a planting project along a mile of southbound Highway 1 in north Morro Bay.

Some 325 Catalina Cherry and Ceanothus were planted as a screen between Yerba Buena and San Jacinto streets to replace the myoporum that were devastated by thrips, a tiny insect that sucks the life out of leaves.

The replanting cost $75,000 and was performed by Caltrans and the California Conservation Corps. Madrone Landscapes of Atascadero was the contractor.
