Small brushfires break out in San Luis Obispo

Blazes were set on purpose, investigators believe

A series of intentionally set fires kept firefighters busy just before midnight Monday in San Luis Obispo.

City Fire Capt. Dave Podhorsky said firefighters responded to reports of multiple small brush fires on vacant land at Orcutt Road and Sacramento Street. Five fires had been started in dry grass in a field at that location. They were each about 10 feet by 20 feet in size, Podhorsky said, "and appear to have been intentionally set."

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the small blazes. No structures were threatened, nor were any injuries sustained.

Anyone with information should contact fire marshal Rodger Maggio at 781-7386.
