Hundreds of people gathered at Morro Rock Saturday to honor surfer Dustin Ray, who died earlier this month at age 39.
The Morro Bay resident was known to paddle into 20-foot waves in Hawaii and Cayucos.
He left behind three children two of whom lost their mother, Marci Sueann Groesbeck, in a 2005 fatal car accident in Cayucos. In addition to a memorial paddle-out, a fundraiser collected $20,000 to help Rays mother support his children.
