A 21-year-old Bakersfield man and a few of his passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries Thursday after the man fell asleep while driving west on Avila Beach Drive and ran into a restroom building, according to the CHP.

About 2 p.m. Thursday, the driver, Bently Brown, was driving a 2004 Chevy vehicle west of Ana Bay Road when he fell asleep and the vehicle drifted across the eastbound lane of Avila Beach Drive, according to a CHP news release.

The front end of his vehicle struck the east corner of a bathroom building, causing major damage to both the vehicle and the building, the news release stated.

Brown was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Two other passengers also received injuries.

Deeanna Dolton, 17, was also transported to Sierra Vista with moderate injuries; Molly Burkert, 20, was taken to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital with minor injuries, according to CHP.

A fourth passenger, Nicholas Brewer, 26, was not injured.

All are from Bakersfield.

No arrests were made. The CHP said both men were wearing seat belts but the two female passengers were not.
