Californians can now sign up for same-day voter registration thanks to a new bill signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday.
To help encourage citizens to take action, the state last week developed the online voter registration website, www.RegisterToVote.ca.gov.
The voter registration bill, written by Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/San Mateo, also designates Sept. 25 as Voter Registration Day each year.
The new law targets the approximately 30 percent of eligible California voters who dont register, according to a news release from Yees office in Sacramento.
The participation of all of citizens is vital to ensuring that our government properly represents the views of the people, Yee said in a statement.
