College Roundup: Cal Poly volleyball team falls to UC Irvine

The Cal Poly volleyball team was swept 25-12, 25-17, 25-22 by UC Irvine on Saturday night in a Big West Conference match at the Bren Events Center in Irvine.

Holly Franks led the Mustangs (1-12, 0-2) with 11 kills. Nicole Kessler had 14 digs, Maddie Kuber had 18 assists and seven digs, Kate Walters had 14 assists and six digs and Molly Pon had eight kills for Cal Poly.

Marissa Alvarez had 33 assists and nine digs, and Sydney Wright had 14 kills and four digs for UC Irvine. Ella Rosenfeld had a game-high seven blocks, and Aly Squires had nine kills and seven digs for the Anteaters (7-8, 2-0).

Cabrillo Tournament

Cuesta (7-5) placed fifth, losing to College of San Mateo 6-4 and beating San Joaquin Delta 11-5 in the second day of the tournament.

Shanae Lauridsen scored six goals in the two games, and Haylie Fry had three for the Cougars. Cuesta’s Zoe Berkowitz had six saves on the day.
