Atascadero forces late turnover for football win over Pioneer Valley

Greyhounds down Panthers 22-16 on the road

Atacadero High's Hunter Stemper intercepted a Pioneer Valley pass with 45 second left in regulation to seal the victory for Atascadero (3-2) in the PAC 7 football opener for both teams Friday night at Pioneer Valley.

Atascadero piled up 219 rushing yards on 32 carries.

Jonathan Torres had 158 rushing yards, including 83 yards on one of two first-quarter touchdowns.

Following a Panthers’ field goal in the second quarter, Izaiah Cooks took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to put the Greyhounds up 22-10 at the half. Cooks also had 42 rushing yards on seven carries.

Greyhound quarterback Robbie Berwick finished 9-for-12 passing for 93 yards and an interception. Dominic Chance was Atascadero’s leading receiver with 50 yards on three catches.

Stemper’s interception was Atascadero’s second takeaway in the game.
