UPDATE: Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a car crash near Lopez Lake Sept. 20 as Laurence Gregory Jones, 63, of Arroyo Grande. An autopsy is pending.
ORIGINAL STORY:A 60-year-old man died Thursday evening after he lost control of his vehicle, which rolled several times down a hill off Lopez Drive next to Lopez Lake in Arroyo Grande, according to the CHP.
CHP officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash about 7:45 p.m. Thursday in a remote area north of the 4800 block of Lopez Drive, according to a news release.
The man, driving a white 1996 GMC sport utility vehicle, was attempting to drive up a steep hill when the vehicle lost traction and started to roll backwards. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle and it rolled several times down the hill, coming to rest on its wheels, according to the CHP.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, the CHP said. Hunters later found the driver and vehicle.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated. The driver had not been identified as of this morning.
