Stymied stealer 4:26 p.m. Sept. 2, 180 Niblick Road Walmart security said they watched a man in his 20s attempt to remove security devices from a laptop. He damaged it while doing so and dumped the item in the store. Officers arrested the man.

Secret code needs some work 11:19 p.m. Sept. 2, 3200 block of Spring St. A resident said her downstairs neighbors were related to subjects from a murder in Monterey County, and she had worked out a plan for them to knock on her ceiling three times if they needed help. She heard the three knocks and was concerned. Officers checked and everyone was OK.

That’s a no-go 1:45 a.m. Sept. 3, 1534 Park St. A citizen said the ignition had been pulled out of his car. He requested a tow truck.

Dogs gone 4:52 p.m. Sept. 3, 3400 block of Park Street A woman said she gave her dogs to a man to watch for her. She now wants them back, and he was refusing. The man told her one dog had died and the other ran away.

Neighborhood watch 8:35 p.m. Sept. 3, Pioneer Trail A resident said an ice cream truck was always in the area at night. The truck had no writing on the outside, and the resident did not think anyone was actually selling ice cream from the truck.

Overreaction 7:26 a.m. Sept. 4, in Paso Robles A resident went to confront a neighbor about his dog being loose, and the neighbor punched him in the stomach.

Little girl lost 3:16 p.m. Sept. 4, Fourth and Spring streets A young child was found walking around, unattended. The child was lost and did not know where her family was. Officers found the girl, who got off at the wrong bus stop. They took her to her mother.

Homeless hound 7:52 p.m. Sept. 4, Winding Brook Road A loose German shepherd was wandering the neighborhood for two days. He had been dropped off by aman in a white work truck.
