A hand-held radar unit was stolen from a San Luis Obispo police motorcycle early Sunday morning.

Several motorcycle units responded to a fight reported at 55 Stenner at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, the Police Department said in a news release. One motorcycle was left unattended while officers investigated the incident.

During that time, a LIDAR unit was taken from a pouch on the motorcycle. Such units are used for speed enforcement.

The unit is identified as an Ultra Lyte model manufactured by Laser Technologies valued at more than $2,500. Possession of the device by unauthorized persons is a felony.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call 549-7867 or submit a tip online at www.slotips.org.
