The estimated minimum usage bill for single residential customers on completion of the Morro Bay sewer project in 2014 is $56, which is $10 higher than original estimates because of delays and increasing costs. This does not include water charges, which are also increasing.
Coastal Commission staff recommends starting over at the Righetti property, which will take an additional five to 10 years. The city engineers estimated minimum usage residential bill on completion of that project is $85 (not including water charges), which may also be low, for the same reasons.
At $85 for minimum usage, potential residential bills of $100 to $150 are not wildly inaccurate, as John Diodatis viewpoint claimed. Diodati works in the county Public Works Department, and since taking over the Los Osos sewer project in 2006, the county has spent $15.3 million before construction.
Morro Bay and Cayucos residents and businesses should be very concerned. Read the Joint Powers Authoritys Aug. 3 response to the Coastal Commission staff report at www.morro -bay.ca.us under WWTP Upgrade Project. Then email the Coastal Commission at dcarl@coastal.ca.gov and tell them how you feel, before its too late.
