Mustangs have won two in a row; women’s team falls at home to Oregon State

Mackenzie Pridham scored in the first half to lift the Cal Poly men’s soccer team to 1-0 victory over Valparaiso in the Mustangs’ home opener Sunday.

Pridham headed home a goal in the 33rd minute, finishing a deflected shot attempt from Mustangs forward George Malki. Pridham has scored in consecutive games for Cal Poly.

Cal Poly (2-2-0) goalkeeper Chase Hauser had two key saves in the game’s final 10 minutes. He finished with three saves and earned his second shutout.

Valparaiso (1-3-1) outshot Cal Poly 12-11 but managed to get only three shots on goal.

Cal Poly has won two games in a row.

The Mustangs continue its five-match homestand against Temple on Friday at 7 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER Oregon State 3, Cal Poly 1

The Beavers scored twice in the opening 20 minutes and handed the Mustangs a loss at Spanos Stadium.

Trailing 3-0, Cal Poly (3-2-1) got its goal in the 81st minute. Elise Krieghoff got the goal, assisted by Sara Lancaster.

Oregon State (5-1-0) outshot the Mustangs 11-5 and got goals from Meagan Miller, Jacy Drobney and Jenna Richardson.

Cal Poly goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti made six saves.

The Mustangs travel to BYU on Thursday.
