A $1,000 reward has been offered to anyone with information about two incidents of vandalism targeting a local school's athletic director, who is gay.
The vandalism directed at Bailey Brown, the athletic director of Mission Preparatory Catholic High School, is being investigated as a hate crime. Local authorities say Brown was targeted because of her sexual orientation.
On April 26, Brown's car was vandalized at her Pismo Beach home. Her vehicle was keyed and spray-painted, and her tires were punctured, authorities said.
Then on May 24, four areas of the Mission Prep campus were vandalized with messages referring to Brown's sexual orientation. The vandalism included spray-painted phrases on the sidewalk and buildings as well as a printed note left at the door of the schools administration office, officials said.
