SLO plans new holiday merriment

There will be additional entertainment for children through Christmas Eve

San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza could be busier than usual this holiday season.

Starting on Black Friday — the Friday following Thanksgiving that kicks off the holiday shopping season — families strolling through the plaza will be able to participate in a variety of events and activities, said Dominic Tartaglia, president of the Downtown Association.

The association is forming a subcommittee to discuss the events, but there will be additional entertainment for children through Christmas Eve. Activities may include such things as craft-making, story time, caroling and a bounce house.

“We’re brainstorming some ideas,” he said. “But families need more affordable, fun stuff to do with their kids. And we need more people coming downtown to improve the business traffic.”

Tartaglia noted that Santa’s House and the carousel continue to be popular with residents throughout the county, and this will help spread the message to return year after year.
