Letter: Politics a diversion

Published: September 2, 2012

Our forefathers created a framework for us to live within. They said:

Here: these simple laws and principles are easy to live within. Enjoy going forward in the pursuit of happiness and with freedom. I think they expected us to use the common sense and high-mindedness that they used.

Sure, things have become more complicated in this day and age, but most everything can still be brought back to a high-minded common sense.

It hurts to see neighbor against neighbor and friends against friends as we wallow around in a world where the fabric of our laws and policies has been shredded, to where the intent is a blurry thing, and everyone has an opinion of what they really mean or should mean.

I believe there was a time when people voted the way they were going to vote, but they still loved their friends and respected their right to think differently; after all, there are no two people in this world who are exactly alike.

Are we going to be so petty and low-minded that we think everyone should think the way we do?

Politics has become a diversion — a diversion from the things that really matter: love, respect, and true common sense.
