Brick by brick, Atascaderos historic dome-topped City Administration Building is coming together. The four-story building was damaged in the 2003 San Simeon Earthquake, but repairs have been ongoing, and it is slated to reopen in 2013 for Atascaderos centennial.
The project, which started in 2010, has included raising the 1917 building and drilling steel pipes filled with concrete into the bedrock below to strengthen the foundation.
Crews have been using scaffolding around the outside of the building to remove and repair loose brick, clean it and prepare to install a perfect match of new and original clay tile on the rotunda.
Adding architectural details, such as repainting the interior dome, is the next step in the process.
