Los Osos parolee arrested, accused of credit card fraud

Published: August 30, 2012

The Sheriff’s Office arrested a 45-year-old Los Osos parolee on suspicion of fraud, burglary, and possession of a controlled substance Monday, after finding materials that could be used to create fake credit cards the agency has accused him of using.

The Narcotics Task Force, acting on a tip, arrested Richard Joseph Sams at his room at the Farmhouse Motel in Paso Robles, and warned that he may have a large number of local victims. He was booked into County Jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators found items “that would commonly be used to create fake credit cards and counterfeit checks, including printers, label makers and blank checks.”

They also discovered marijuana, illegal prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia, they said.

The Sheriff's Office is urging residents to “keep an eye on their bank statements.” If they notice discrepancies or think their personal identification has been compromised, they are advised to contact local police.
