Letter: Whales’ tales

Published: August 27, 2012

Mother Nature has an interesting way of showing her amazing beauty and yet unmerciful power of destruction when she’s unhappy! Our own Avila Beach is full of whales frolicking in the waters, swimming with locals, and they are surrounded by amazing “bait balls” of fish providing dolphins, seals and a vast variety of sea birds a daily feeding frenzy. To witness this in person is truly indescribable and mind-boggling, to say the least!

I’m just curious if she’s rewarding us with this spectacular event to show her affection or to simply have our ocean friends stop by to bid us farewell as we’re about to start blasting (seismic testing) their natural environment with unnatural noise and possible devastating effects. Enjoy this phenomenon while you can, as these beautiful creatures may not be back for a very long time ... we’ll have to wait and see.
