The Cal Poly women’s soccer team tied Nevada 1-1 in double overtime Friday night in Reno behind a dominant performance from freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Gianetti.

Gianetti tallied nine saves in just her third start for the Mustangs (2-0-1) but allowed the Wolfpack’s only goal in the 78th minute when Nevada’s Chrisalyn Fonte scored off an assist from Lindsey Salcido.

Kacey Held scored Cal Poly’s only goal in the 26th minute off a corner kick from Jess Duller.

The Mustangs play at Sacramento State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER

Seattle 1, Cal Poly 0

The Mustangs (0-1) limited the Redhawks (1-0) to just three shots on goal, but forward Miguel Gonzales scored the game’s lone goal off his own rebound in the 39th minute to lift Seattle to the victory.

Gonzales had all three shots for the Redhawks.

Freshman goalkeeper Wade Hamilton recorded two saves in his first collegiate start for Cal Poly.

VOLLEYBALL

University of San Diego 3, Cal Poly 0

The Mustangs opened the season with a loss to the No. 19 Toreros in the opening game of the 26 West Longhorns Classic in Austin, Texas.

Cal Poly fell 25-10, 25-15, 25-20.

Junior setter Kate Walters had a team-high 25 assists to go with seven digs, and Chelsea Hardin led Cal Poly with nine kills. Molly Pon and Holly Fanks added eight kills each.

Amber Tatsch led San Diego with 13 kills, and Katie Hoekman added 10.

Cal Poly found itself in an early hole, down 14-5 in the first, and finished the set with a .077 hitting percentage compared to .593 for the Toreros.

The Mustangs were within two in the third set, down 19-17, but San Diego answered with a 6-3 run to take the match.

Cal Poly returns to the court today for two games against No. 2 Texas and LSU. The Mustangs will face the host Longhorns at 9:30 a.m. and the Tigers at 2 p.m.
