A 28-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he nearly hit San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s deputies with his car while trying to flee from them in a supermarket parking lot.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit arrested Adam Dykes, described as a transient from the Five Cities area, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and felony resisting arrest, according to a news release.

Deputies had been trying to find Dykes, who they say is a documented gang member, for violating terms of his parole by not reporting in to his parole officer. He is being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

They spotted Dykes about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Albertsons parking lot in the 700 block of E. Foothill Blvd. Dykes then tried to escape in his vehicle, according to the news release.

He put his vehicle into reverse and starting backing up, nearly hitting deputies in the process. No one was injured, said sheriff’s spokesman Tony Cipolla.

Dykes was then arrested by members of the Sheriff’s Gang Task Force and Narcotics Unit.
